Memory of Europe – international online workshop
Each of us perceives World War II as the largest and the most devastating conflict in human history. We know the places of the fighting, the warring parties, we learn the years of its duration, the winners and the losers. But the reason why we should pay a great attention to it above all, are the testimonies of the people who experienced it firsthand. The stories of these monuments, often extremely brave and exceptional people, who can teach us empathy, solidarity and friendly understanding.
Our students, who took part in the World War II workshop on April 23 and were able to collaborate with students from Poland, Greece and Italy, looked at this area of history through the eyes of researchers, through films and books that deal with the subject. During the workshop, the students worked in groups, through which they explored the excerpts from books or excerpts from films (Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, Schindler's List, The Book Thief, The Zookeeper's wife, The Boys in the Striped Pajamas), they worked out various tasks for and through the stories of specific people, they tried to understand the causes of the Second World War, but especially they learned the fates of not only important but ordinary people, who in many cases were able to risk their own lives to save the defenseless and innocent.
Based on the acquired knowledge, each group finally prepared an output in the form of a presentation, poster or image, which they then presented to all participants.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the active students involved in this workshop and praise them for their extraordinary and wonderful work! 😊
