The programme of our first face to face meeting in Rožňava
1st Day
Our first international meeting in Rožňava
On March 20, 2022, we welcomed our project partners from Greece, Poland and Italy at the airport. Students had begun to get to know each other during online activities, but it could not substitute for a personal meeting. Monday 21.3. started unconventionally because our students, dressed in traditional costumes, welcomed our partners with the traditional Slavic custom - bread and salt. The whole day passed in the spirit of getting to know each other. We used different forms of fun activities and games. In the afternoon, our students accompanied the guests around the historic center of Rožňava and showed them the most famous sights of the city. The tour also included a competition in which students had to prove what they remembered from the tour. The winning group was rewarded with interesting prizes. Congratulations to the winners!
2nd Day
On Tuesday 22.3. project activities continued with a trip to a place that is known in the history of Slovakia as a place where in 1944 the heaviest battles took place during the Second World War. Our first stop was the Military Museum in Svidník, where students learned a lot of facts about the course and different events during the Second World War. We then visited Death Valley, the site where 60,000 soldiers died. During the visit to the museum and the Death Valley, students collected various information and recorded it in a worksheet. Subsequently, they used it in creating project outputs.
3rd Day
On Wednesday 23.3. the students started the day with a lecture about the Holocaust and the Jews in Rožňava which was led by Mr. László Kardos who prepared us an interesting presentation of this topic. Then the students continued with a quiz, in which they demonstrated the knowledge from the previous day. The winners were again rewarded with interesting prizes. Subsequently, they worked intensively on the project outputs. With the help of teachers, they created comics, painted stories, poems, short stories, documentaries, board games and a timeline about the Great Depression before World War II. In the afternoon, our project partners visited the manor house in Betliar and took a walk around its park.
4th Day
On Thursday 24.3. we planned another trip. This time we visited the Museum of the Slovak National Uprising in Banská Bystrica. Its task is to commemorate the period of World War II and the Slovak National Uprising, the center of which was Banská Bystrica. On our way back we visited the High Tatras and introduced our mountains to our guests.
5th Day
On Friday 25.3. we continued to finalize the project outputs which were presented by the students later that day. The board games were played during the day and the winners were rewarded again. The students showed that they learned a lot during the week and at the same time they used their talent and skills, because their outputs were creative and very interesting. In the evening, we evaluated the project activities at the farewell dinner and handed over a certificate of participation to each participant. We would like to thank everyone involved for the amazing work throughout the week.
On Saturday 26.3. we said goodbye to our project partners. The students and teachers have made wonderful friendships and we are already looking forward to our next meeting in Italy.
Reports
The history teachers prepared a questionnaire to the student community about “What do you know about the WWII and its impact on country?”
