Short-term exchanges of groups of pupils in Gioia del Colle
From May 9 to 13, 2022 the second international meeting in Italy, in the city of Gioia del Colle, 39 km from the port city of Bari was held. Slovakia, Poland and Greece participated in project activities during the above-mentioned days.
Throughout the week, we had the opportunity to participate in a rich programme prepared by teachers from Italy, which consisted of various project activities aimed at bringing the theme of the Second World War closer to us.
The entire exchange stay started on Monday, May 9, with an opening ceremony in the middle of the high school called Liceo Scientifico 'Canudo', where all project participants were warmly welcomed and a presentation of the country from a geographical, social and historical point of view directed by Italian students was presented.
After the initial introduction, the students had the opportunity to get to know each other better thanks to the theatre workshop, which took place directly on the stage of the Teatro Rossini, the city theatre in Gioia del Colle, while the entire alternative theatre performance of the students ended with the well-known Italian partisan song Bella ciao from the time of the Second World War.
The Monday afternoon program continued with the presentation of the cultural and natural heritage of Slovakia by students from Rožňava, as well as the preparation of methodology and lesson plans on the topic of the Second World War, which were created by teachers from individual countries who mastered the given issue. They were followed by a joint guided tour of the historic centre of the city, which became a source of inspiration for the creation of worksheets, including a historical and literary component about World War II.
Tuesday was marked by presentations about Greece and Poland - their natural and cultural heritage, as well as geographical and socio-historical information, which was provided by students from those countries.
On Wednesday, the entire crew of tourists followed the footsteps of the Second World War to Bari and then to the city of Alberobello, which is famous for the fact that a concentration camp was established there.
On Thursday, the excursion continued in the town of Polignano, on the coast of which there is a relic of a military bunker from the Second World War.
Friday was the final day and at the same time the culmination of the week-long creative group work of all the students, as well as the teachers. In the morning, the students showed off their project outputs, for which they earned diplomas, which were presented to them during the joint farewell.
It was not easy for the students to go home at all, since in addition to new knowledge, experience and improving their language skills, they also gained new valuable friendships and unforgettable experiences. We teachers had the opportunity to share our inspiring ideas when creating teaching materials with colleagues from other countries, which again helped in our professional growth, all thanks to the Erasmus+ project.
