España - IES ERAS DE RENUEVA
IES Eras de Renueva is a public school with 1090 students aged 12-18 and 95 teachers working highly concerned about students’ literacy skills. We have 4 bilingual programs, 2 in English, MEC-British Council and Bilingual Section, and 2 in French, Bilingual Section and Spanish-French Baccalaureate. Since 2016 the school has LABEL FRANCE EDUCATION SEAL accreditation. We try to build and develop the so-called 21st century skills (critical thinking, problem solving, research practice, creativity, teamwork, ICT literacy, entrepreneurialism, etc.) and assess and evaluate our teaching technics and make parents and local Community aware of the need of developing students’ literacy skills to actively participate in school and society. The key people in charge of running the project will be the teachers from different subjects who belong to the newly created department of Internationalisation. The group is numerous, so in case somebody leaves their post, their role will be immediately taken over by some other teacher. The Headmistress is one of the members, so she is directly involved in the Erasmus+ projects. They have been working in 8 different projects for six years, in some of them as coordinators. Concerning the topic of this application, the school is participating in several language projects: - School Linguistic Project: related to the linguistic-communicative competence of our students - “Reading promotion” project: every month a writer gives a lecture to the students about their books Day's anniversaries are celebrated with conferences and readings. There are several contests of stories and poems with high participation. Once a week the activity "Literary breaks" takes place, in which students recite poems. Through the school webpage, every month some books are recommended. Some book based movies are viewed. There is a very nice place called Reading Corner where students have some relaxing activities related to reading. This project has been successfully implemented for several years. Students are encouraged as well to participate in the annual school magazine and a lot of good articles are published. Through every subject literacy skills are promoted: students participate in the annual school magazine with a lot of good articles; in ICT classroom, students design and program “Digital stories” with Scratch adapting known books; in STEM subject they read technical texts through authentic texts and current news; in Mathematics they work on proportion through the recipes; in Language subjects, they work on books and prepare theatre performance. Teachers and students are also involved in “Fridays for Future” activities and in some Innovative Projects about STEAM topics, such as Virtual and Augmented Reality, Coding and Robotics, IoT, use of tablets and mobiles in classroom tasks, 3D printing or Integrated curriculum. Students participate as well in regional and national Mathematics, Chemistry, Agri-food, Biology Olympiads with very good results.
